Potentially, the most disastrous problem is that a landfill may leak.  Many landfills, ranging from a residential garbage dump to toxic industrial waste dot the upper and lower coastal plains of the Santee River basin.  Presently, a toxic industrial waste landfill lies less than 100yards from the upper Lake Marion shores.

According to my research, it has been 32 years since the first synthetic liners installed at the toxic waste dump located near Rimini, SC were installed. Also, according to the research those liners are warranted for only 50 years. That gives us approximately 12 years of warranted protection.
